Does FenceScape come in any colors?
FenceScape is available in a rich, warm Mountain Cedar color.

Will FenceScape fade in color?
Yes. Most materials exposed to UV and weathering will fade. However, FenceScape is blended with high quality raw materials and UV-inhibiting pigments to produce a product consistent in color. Because of the quality material used, FenceScape will fade less than other composites available. And because a fence doesn't get the foot traffic that a composite deck does, the results are even better.

What is the purpose of the steel reinforced rail?
FenceScape's steel reinforced rail provides strength to prevent the potential creep experienced with temperature changes or long-term load. This patent-pending technology results in a fence with unparalleled strength and durability.

What kind of steel is in the rail?
The expanded steel in the rail is galvanized, not stainless.

What is the benefit of using the rail bracket?
The benefit of using our color matched, powder coated rail bracket is simply ease of installation. Using the bracket eliminates the need to pre-drill when toe screwing the rails between the posts. Rail brackets also give increased structural stability.

How heavy is FenceScape?
FenceScape fence boards are 30-40% lighter than a solid composite board. Weight is a key factor with regard to creep in a plastic or composite rail.

How does heat affect FenceScape?
The effect that heat has on FenceScape is similar to the effect it has on a wood fence. FenceScape was developed with reflective, inorganic pigments which are more expensive than organic pigments, but dramatically reduce heat buildup. Some competitors use organic pigments due to the cost of the reflective, inorganic pigments. FenceScape's R&D engineers have been developing pigment systems for the Crane Group for over 60 years in vinyl siding, composite decking and railing as well as other applications. This has provided the expertise for FenceScape to have one of the coolest composites available.

How does salt water affect FenceScape?
Saltwater climates are a perfect application for FenceScape products. Salt water will have no ill effects on FenceScape.

Is FenceScape environmentally friendly?
Yes. Because FenceScape will not splinter, warp or fade the way wood does, it dramatically reduces the wasteful cycle of repair and replacement—and eliminates the frequent application of environmentally harmful paint, sealers and stains.

  • FenceScape composite fencing is manufactured with recycled wood materials that would otherwise go into landfills. In addition, FenceScape is able to regrind scrap produced in our manufacturing facility.
  • FenceScape recycles water during the manufacturing process.
  • Unlike wood, FenceScape products are a one-time purchase for most homeowners—with a 25-year warranty.
  • FenceScape does not require painting, staining or sealing.

What can be used to clean FenceScape?
Although low-maintenance, FenceScape components may require periodic cleaning to help maintain the beauty of the product. Frequency of cleaning requirements will vary by region and environment. For periodic cleaning, use a cleaner like eco-friendly Corte Clean (www.corteclean.com or Zinsser's Jomax (www.zinsser.com that contains or is mixed with Sodium Hypochlorite. Follow the manufacturer's application instructions.
Rinsing may be performed with a pressure washer.

How do I clean graffiti from my FenceScape fence?
To clean graffiti off the surface of FenceScape products, try using Motsenbocker's Lift Off #4 (www.liftoffinc.com). The best method is to apply the Lift Off #4 and allow it to soak in. The manufacturer recommends 3 minutes, but allowing it to stand on the fence board for an hour eases the cleaning process. After letting the cleaner soak in gently, work a non-abrasive brush over the surface of the stain. Repeat as needed until the stain is removed. A small pick or file tip may be used to remove the paint out of the emboss pattern if desired.

Can I power wash my fence?
Yes. You can wash your fence with a power washer. Power washing will enhance results when cleaning your FenceScape fence. A maximum 1200 psi is recommended for FenceScape products. A fan tip nozzle should be used, and spray in the direction of the grain/fence board to avoid damaging the surface of your fence. Use caution not to damage the material, and always take the proper safety precautions when operating a power washer.

What do I do for scratches, nicks or cuts?
Scratches and nicks will weather to a similar match in 8-10 weeks; the time frame will vary based on exposure and climate. Surface scratches on the fence boards, rail and the 5-1/4" x 5-1/4" post may be repaired by applying heat to the surface; you can blend the damaged surface area back in by encapsulating the wood fiber and resin back together. This can be performed with a soldering iron such as the LSP-25 manufactured by Wall Lenk Corporation which is a cordless butane powered soldering iron. The LSP-25 retails for approximately $15 and is readily available at most building supply and hardware stores. Standard soldering irons will work as well; best practice would be to experiment on a piece of scrap material to determine the best heat range as every soldering iron will vary. A rounded tip design will work the best to blend the scratched material back in.

Can I paint FenceScape?
Although not required, FenceScape may be painted or stained. TimberTech does not recommend painting and cannot guarantee the performance of anything applied to the product. Painting and staining takes away from the low-maintenance benefits of FenceScape, and once FenceScape is painted, stained or sealed, subsequent applications will be necessary to maintain appearance.

For painting information contact your FenceScape dealer or a local paint supplier. Stains and sealers that are recommended for use with FenceScape are:

Wait approximately 8-10 weeks or until FenceScape has completed its weathering process before painting or staining. Clean your fence surface prior to applying paint or stain. Never paint or stain over surfaces that may contain dirt or mildew. Best results will be obtained when using a high-quality paint or solid color stain. Always apply paints and sealers in accordance with the manufacturer's application instructions.

Can I put the post cover in the ground?
Yes. The post cover can be set slightly below grade to create a moisture barrier to protect the internal post. Post covers must be used in conjunction with a structural post.

What kind of fasteners should I use?
With FenceScape you can use the same tools and fasteners that you would when building a wood fence.

Attaching Fence Boards
With FenceScape you can use the same tools and fasteners that you would when building a wood fence.

When fastening with an air nail gun, experiment with a piece of scrap material to determine the proper air pressure required to obtain the desired depth.

Attaching Post Caps
FenceScape decorative post caps may be secured with stainless steel finish nails or exterior caulk.

Attaching Support Rails
Mounting Between Posts
Attach using FenceScape's powder-coated, color-matched rail bracket. Pre-drilling is not required with use of the rail bracket. Fasten the bracket into the FenceScape post cover, with use of internal 4" x 4" post, using (2) #8 x 2-1/2" weather-resistant stainless steel or composite deck screws at each rail to post attachment. Fasten the bracket into the FenceScape post using (2) #8 x 1-1/4" weather-resistant stainless steel or composite deck screws.

Toe screwing applications require pre-drilling, along with (2) #8 x 3" weather-resistant stainless steel or composite deck screws at each rail to post attachment. 45 degree pre-drilled holes should be located 1" from the end cut and 1" from the top and bottom edge of the rail.

Face Mounting
Use (2) #8 x 3" weather-resistant stainless steel or composite deck screws at each rail to post attachment.

NOTE: Use manufacturer's recommended fastener with steel post applications.

Do I have to pre-drill?
For toe screwing the rails between the posts, pre-drilling is required and a #8 x 3" stainless steel or high-quality coated deck screw should be used. Pre-drilling helps to avoid splitting and to assist in driving the fastener through the embedded perforated steel core. 45º pre-drilled holes should be located 1" from the end cut and approximately 1" from the top or bottom edge of the rail.

For face mounting, pre-drilling is recommended. Pre-drilling is required for any fastener installed within 1-1/2" of the end of the rail.

Pre-drilling is not required with installation of the fence boards.

How many fasteners are required on each fence board?
Fence boards should be attached with two fasteners at each rail.

Do I need to gap the fence boards?
Side-to-side spacing is not required between FenceScape fence boards. FenceScape will not expand or contract like traditional lumber, so a true privacy fence can be achieved.

How do I cut FenceScape?
FenceScape cuts just like wood. All FenceScape products can be cut with a circular saw. No special care or treatment is required on the cut/machined edges. It is recommended that a carbide tip blade be used on the rail with steel in it. The blade will wear slightly quicker than when one is cutting wood.

Can I use FenceScape fence boards over a new or existing wood substructure?
Yes. FenceScape fence boards may be used in conjunction with a wood substructure. FenceScape fence boards should never be used as load bearing members.
